Richard and Aly met while both were working harvest in the Napa Valley (Richard from Australia and Aly from Colorado). The two quickly fell in love and began a whirlwind courtship traveling the world making wine. They finally married and settled down in Richard’s home country of Australia. In 2013 the pair gained exclusive privilege to fruit from some of Barossa Valley’s most historic vineyards, thus beginning the Agapanthus story.
A descendent of hard working, tolerant, thriving vines. Agapanthus Shiraz is sourced with love from vineyards sustainblly farmed for decades. "Great wine starts in the vineyard" as they say, and that is exactly why our Barossa Valley Shiraz stole our hearts. It reflects our beliefs in its quality. Elegant, yet bold and determined. Agapanthus encompasses what it takes to create, while maintaining a form of grace. Supple and centered with a sense of being.
Settled by Europeans in the early 1800's, Barossa has a long history of agriculture. Located 60 km northeast of Adelaide, South Australia. Barrossa Valley proper rises 270 meters (886 ft.) above sea level. Its proximity to the Gulf of St. Vincent provides cool sea breezes, while a shift in wind can drive in warmer inland air, thus creating ideal temperatures. Water in the Barossa is sacred, leaving many of the vines to draw their roots deep below the earth's surface. As a result many vines that live here are old and established, reflecting their many years of survival in the wines they produce.
